16 Apr 08 - UD LAUNCHES A NEW ERA WITH INNOVATIVE HEAVY AND MEDIUM DUTY TRUCK RANGE

< Back to News

UD Trucks has launched its all-new heavy-duty GW range as well as the new PK medium duty line up, unveiling its latest Euro 4/ADR80/02 compliant trucks for the Australian market.

GW is the number one selling heavy duty prime mover in its home market of Japan and comes to the Australian market with a reputation for performance, reliability and fuel efficiency as well as being amongst the cleanest and most environmentally friendly trucks available.

The new medium and heavy-duty line-up comprises two GW models, the GW400 and GW470 as well as two PK models, the PK9 and PK10.

There will be a total of 20 variants initially available including optional air bag suspension on GW models and either a six or nine speed transmission on PK models with either air bag suspension or steel springs and a range of chassis lengths.

UD will offer more options in chassis length than its opponents, with three chassis length options for PK9 models and four for PK10.

These variants will be added to in the coming months with the expected release of hydraulic automatic and automated manual transmissions.

According to UD Trucks general manager John Bushell the new models deliver exceptionally high levels of standard equipment and value for money as well as delivering strong active and passive safety, fuel efficiency and clean engine technology.

"UD has carved a solid and highly respected reputation for trucks that perform and return strongly on the investment and this new range takes big step up in every area, they are very impressive trucks which will help UD further build its market share in Australia," said Mr Bushell.

"The range will be further swelled with the arrival of the new MK models later in the year completing the line-up of new clean, green and efficient UDs," he said.

"Automatic and automated transmission models will also be launched across the range through 2008 further adding to the appeal and versatility of the UD range," he added.

The MK medium duty models will join the new streamlined UD range in Australia in July this year completing the new look line up, all of which easily meet the latest ADR 80/02 emission requirements and the ADR83/00 noise regulations.

The new UD's utilise either SCR or EGR technology to deliver environmentally friendly emission requirements on certain models.

The heavy duty GW including the 400 and flagship 470 variants utilise a combination of the latest SCR and EGR emission reduction technology while the PK9 and PK10 models use EGR technology.

At the heart of both the PK and GW models are the latest generation high efficiency multi-valve overhead cam, ultra high pressure unit injection engines with VNT turbocharger and intercooler, which deliver more power and torque as well as improved fuel economy and lower emissions.

The GW utilises 13-litre powerplants with the 400 delivering maximum power of 390 hp(287kW) as well as 1716Nm of torque, while the flagship 470 produces 460 horsepower (340KW) and 2255Nm of torque.

The PK models use a 7.6-litre multi-valve overhead cam, common rail fuel injected engines with variable nozzle turbochargers and intercoolers and maximum power of 260hp and 794Nm of torque.

PK is available with either a six-speed UD manual transmission or a nine-speed Eaton manual transmission, while the GW utilises Eaton's renown RoadRanger 13 or 18-speed manuals. Automatic and automated options are planned for release later in 2008.

As well as being more environmentally friendly the UDs also boast more power and torque than their predecessors as well as improved safety and higher levels of driver aid and comfort.

The entire range now boasts ABS anti lock brakes as standard equipment, delivering higher levels of safety and security, while standard cruise control across all models adds to the already impressive equipment levels.
